Gaza Film Screening & Panel Discussion This Thursday
Here in New York, we have marched in the streets by the tens of thousands demanding a permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and freedom for the Palestinian people. We have been arrested en masse from Grand Central Station to JFK Airport. We have blocked bridges and tunnels and the streets outside a presidential fundraiser. There will be more protests and more arrests, more planning meetings, more shocking videos to post and share on social media. The Indypendent will be there to cover it all and more. But, it’s also important to have moments of shared community and shared reflection
Tomorrow (Thursday) night, The Indy and Starr Bar will be creating that space as we co-host a screening of Born in Gaza, a riveting 2014 documentary about the impact of war on 10 Palestinian children, followed by a panel discussion about the past, present and future of Gaza. Our three amazing speakers are the Egyptian journalist Sharif Abdel Khouddous and Palestinian writers Sarah Aziza and Farah Burqawi. The discussion will be moderated by The Indy’s Associate Editor Amba Guerguerian. For more about our panelists, see the poster below.
Sliding scale: $10-50. Donations will go to the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund and The Indypendent.
Starr Bar is located at 214 Starr Street a half block from the L train Jefferson St. stop. Doors open at 6 pm. The film screening will begin at 7 pm and the panel at 8:30 pm.
