From the Harvard Law Review to Hollywood to hundreds of college campuses, hardly a day passes without more people being canceled for questioning Israel. So let’s take a moment to celebrate an important victory for free speech this week at CUNY-Hunter College where faculty and students shamed their campus president into reversing her decision to ban the screening of Israelism, a movie that explores young American Jews’ growing disenchantment with Israel.

Palestine Solidarity Night Report Back
Thank you to everyone who joined us last Saturday at Starr Bar for Palestine Solidarity Night. The place was packed to the rafters. We screened Roadmap to Apartheid, had an amazing panel discussion led by The Indy’s Amba Guerguerian and several pro-Palestinian musicians who performed afterward. For the night, we raised $5,000 with the proceeds being divided between the Middle East Children’s Alliance and The Indypendent, which recently published a Palestine-Israel special edition.

Winter Fund Drive
Here at The Indypendent, we’re building community with the public events we organize, with the Tuesday evening radio show we host on WBAI-99.5 FM and with every print edition we publish that reaches tens of thousands of New Yorkers each month through our red-and-white newsboxes, scores of public libraries as well as independent bookstores, cafes, food co-ops, laundromats and social-movement centers. Help us get the jump on our winter fund drive which officially begins on Tuesday. Our goal is to raise $50,000. When you give, you make all our work possible — and the community it fosters.
