One of the most exciting developments in recent years has been the resurgence of the labor movement. Some of the most powerful unions of mid-20th Century America — the United Auto Workers, the Teamsters and the Screen Actors Guild — are flexing their muscles again and winning big new contracts. At the same time, polls show soaring support for unions among younger workers who are pushing to win unions in retail and service industry jobs once thought impossible to unionize. In one of our most popular stories from our December/January print edition, we look at an inspiring new trend: retired union organizers jumping back into the fray to help younger workers successfully navigate the complicated process of winning union certification under U.S. labor law.
