New York television viewers have been bombarded for weeks by television commercials denouncing Congressman Jamaal Bowman and lauding his Democratic primary opponent George Latimer – most of it bankrolled by more than $14 million in spending by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). Meanwhile, corporate media outlets are largely silent about Latimer’s many scandals, screw ups and racist dog whistles during his time as a Westchester County politician. While the Bowman-Latimer race is grabbing most of the headlines in advance of this Tuesday’s New York Democratic primary, the New York City chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America is fighting to defend its bloc of eight socialist incumbent legislators who serve in Albany while trying to grab three more seats in the State Assembly currently held by machine incumbents. The DSA insurgents – Jonathan Soto, Eon Huntley and Claire Valdez – are running in districts in the Northeast Bronx, Western Queens and Central Brooklyn respectively. Their opponents are being propped up by a torrent of spending from real estate, charter school and pro-Israel interests. We’ve been following each of their races closely.

If you want to get involved, there will be a phone bank for Jamaal Bowman with Cynthia Nixon tonight at 6 pm as well as numerous other grassroots get-out-the-vote events between now and Tuesday.
