The Israel-Gaza War has dominated the news since Hamas went on a murderous rampage in southern Israel on Oct. 7. The Israeli government has responded by killing more than 11,000 people, including over 4,000 children. The situation is likely to only get worse.
So, how did we get here?
On a good day, corporate media isn’t much for context. And when our political leaders catch a bad case of war fever, the media reflects that delirium as well. Before we continue with more articles from our November issue, we have exciting news to share: Next Saturday, we will be hosting a Palestine Solidarity Night at Starr Bar in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Doors will open at 5 p.m. for mixing and mingling. At 6:30 we will screen Roadmap to Apartheid, an award-winning documentary narrated by Alice Walker that explores the connections between South African and Israeli apartheid. We will follow the movie from 8:00-9:30 with a panel discussion featuring Professor Mahmood Mamdani; Nerdeen Kiswani, co-founder of Within Our Lifetime Palestine; Elik Elhanan, co-founder of Combatants for Peace; and others TBD.
From 9:30 onward, we will have live musical performances from Miriam Elhajli, Quese IMC, Antoinex, Divine 7RBG,, Yonasda Lonewolf and DJ KayKay 47.
